Bonding Day 2
Getting Connected
Today we discuss how Ionic Compounds are formed. Metals lose electrons (because they have less than 4 valence electrons) and nonmetals gain electrons (because they have more than 4 valence electrons). These two make a deal to meet each other's needs and transfer electrons from the metals to the nonmetal in such a way so that each ends up with a noble gas structure.....a full valence shell.
If you missed class today read the Blue book pages and take notes. Watch the video and take notes. Do both worksheets (email me with any questions). Bring your work in, including a copy of those notes. Be ready to score the worksheets when you come in.
